Read Debbie's Story

Debbie Fitzgerald, our founder, has spent a lifetime developing her storytelling skills. As a kid she would create her own newspapers using a large piece of paper, a pencil to draw pictures and design mastheads, a ruler to make columns and a vivid imagination to write creative stories. Then she’d carefully fold the paper and deliver the latest “news” to the audience that mattered most to her at the time — her parents and brother.

In elementary school Debbie convinced her sixth-grade teacher to assign a video project to the class and offered her wind-up camera as equipment. In high school, she executed one of her first campaigns — to become senior class treasurer — and won. Later that year she wrote a gossip column for the local newspaper about the social happenings at her school.

Debbie continued developing her craft in college at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, Calif. While earning a Bachelor of Science in business administration, she devoted many hours to the theater department — both behind the scenes and on stage. She enjoyed being part of the stories that are told on stage so much that she earned a minor in theater, and also declared a concentration in marketing to go along with her business degree.

With dreams of a career in the entertainment business, Debbie moved to Los Angeles and started working with celebrities at a talent agency. She then took a job at a television and game show production, animation and comic book company. It was there she discovered the art of public relations (PR).

Debbie’s interest in PR grew after watching a company colleague give a media interview and asking questions about how the contracted PR consultant landed the opportunity. She took the information she received and tried out her first campaign, garnering coverage by local and national media. That success contributed to a film development deal for one of the company’s comic book properties.

Soon after, Debbie sought and landed a job at a PR firm in Los Angeles.

In 2002, she moved to Cumming, Ga., with her family and, after settling in, founded Fitzgerald PR Inc. As president and CEO, Debbie is still passionate about telling a good story and sharing the latest news. These days, she does that by utilizing her extensive background and expertise to produce quality deliverables and content that highlight each client’s unique value proposition.
